[Info-Ingres] Info-Ingres] Ingres Service Problem when Cloning Database to VMWare Server

Hello,
We have a problem trying to start the Ingres Service on a cloned Windows
2003 Server with Ingres 2.6 sp2 database.

The reason for cloning was that we lost power to the computer room over the
weekend, and some important end of month jobs that should run automatically
on the last day of each month were therefore not run, and not noticed until
yesterday.

We decided to clone the database server to an esx VMWare Virtual Server,
including the last full checkpoints taken on the Friday evening. We
configured the cloned Server as internal, not on LAN so that there would be
no conflicts. The idea was then to rollforward the live database on the
cloned Server from the Friday checkpoints, run the missing jobs, and copy
back the output files from these jobs onto a normal LAN configured Server
for printing.

Seemed to be a good idea, but unfortunately we cannot start the Ingres
Service on the cloned Server.. it always hangs up when trying to start the
Ingres Recovery Server.

Has anyone faced a similar problem, and knows why the Recovery Server should
hang? Or has anyone found a different way around the problem of recreating a
database from an old checkpoint without endangering the live database?

We have a test database, that is identical to the live one, but is on the
same Windows Server, and I believe that there are risks when rollforward is
used on one database using a checkpoint from another database when both are
on the same Server. Otherwise that would be a good option to try.

Many Thanks for any help or advice,
Phil
