Hi all.
Let me explain my scenario and make some questions.
I'm working in a project that will develop a solution that needs
integration with a legacy system: An INGRES II 2.6 database in a AIX 4.3
server. Also it is strongly suggested that I use CA-ODBC 3.50 to access
it from my solution (A set of .NET web sites, applications and modules).
I'd like to reproduce my customer's environment in my development center.
First of all, I was think about using a Windows version of INGRES in
order to dismiss the use of an AIX server. Any problems? I thought that,
as I just need to communicate with INGRES using standard ODBC, it
wouldn't be a problem.
When I visited INGRES web site, I found out that the only version
available for download is INGRES 2006. Is this a newer version of INGRES
II? I have no idea of how old INGRES II 2.6 is... Do you know any site
where I can find this version?
After installing the 2006 version, I could notice that its real version
is 9.0.4.105. So it sounds to me that 2.6 is a lot older.... Isn't it?
I also looked at ODBC Panel, in System Tools, and found an Ingres entry,
that points to CAIIOD35.dll. Is this the version I need (CA-ODBC 3.5) or
just a coincidence?
Nowadays, I would expect that there is a .NET Managed Provider for
INGRES... Does this exist? Or ODBC is the best choice, from a .NET
perspective? With good points, I could convince my customer to let the
use of a .NET Provider.
I know that it's a lot of questions. I'll be really grateful for any
help. Forgive me from my poor english. :-)
Thanks a lot,
Eduardo Klein
