It's not rumour, it is idle speculation, and very implausible speculation.

Just this morning I was sent a copy of a message from Roger Burkhardt in 
which he says not to put any credence in the suggestion of an Oracle or IBM 
acquisition.  I guess he would know.

On the one hand I guess it's nice to think that Oracle might notice that 
Ingres even exists, on the other hand the thought that you could buy Ingres 
and get Oracle will surely discourage a lot of potential adopters.  I think 
Ingres should move very quickly to very clearly squash the idea of selling 
out to Oracle (or any other established DBMS vendor).
