Tables in existence, or tables in use at once, or what?

There is indeed a limit on the number of tables in existence, but
I rather imagine that you'll break your filesystem long before
reaching it.  The maximum table ID number (which is used for
other things besides tables, by the way) is currently defined
to be 67108863 (0x3ffffff), for no particularly good reason that
I know of.  That's the only wired-in limit I know of.

(That number is per database, not per installation, of course.)
