Hi Grant,

Mystery solved. The MySQL has converted the UTF-8 to GB2312.

Now all I need is a UTF-16 to GB2312 converter.

The next time I open my mouth and say 'OME functions are easy!' 
would someone please stuff a Royal Singing Potatoe down it.
